INTERNET AND ME, A LOVE STORY

March 13th, 2010

interestingly that i chose to watch HOUSE on this friday night filled with popcorn and nail polish. no im really just catching up on all the TV i didn’t get to watch the past week and that i won’t be watching next week.

this week’s house, if you follow house, was actually about a blogger (being the patient, not focused on her of course, it was played by that redhead in that 70s show, she’s blonde here)

a few days ago in class, the professor brought up ‘bloggers’ as a group of people in a certain context, but it felt like they should be people that we distance our selves from, like pedophiles.

She used the term ‘they’, THEY is ME! I’m not upset that i’m being put into a very special circle for very special children. but that it’s still not commonly accepted to be a blogger. Unless you’re a popular blogger then that’s a totally different story, but still it’s not that common.

but i love the niche that i have created.

So back to House, they tackle some medical issues of course, but what struck a cord with me was that the patient felt unconnected with her husband and she uses blogging as a form of communication with people, to share her thoughts and to obtain opinions.

this is merely speculation on my part but i think bloggers all start out being a little bit lonely.

(also they all want to write so… )

i really want to talk to someone sometimes, i start awkward conversations on MSN. i’m talking about Michael Cera level of awkward here.

it’s basically me trying to talk with someone, someone that i know in real life, someone that i find interesting. in hopes of making a part time friend that i could call and talk to , or maybe even hang out together sometimes. but of course they don’t find me interesting back. i always try to over compensate by being helpful or extremely funny. fail and fail and fail some more. let’s shut this operation down.

SHUT IT DOWN

I know that i’m definitely LESS lonely with blogging, and blogs and communities, some of my favorite things to do is read rants on various news sites, people are hilarious and opinionated.

who’s sick of hearing stuff like “i see what you are saying but i think…” or “while your point is excellent, this is…”

but on the internet, we get straight to the point! people have extremely intelligent debates and discussions in the comment sections!

All these lonely folks who are intelligent, who are interested in films, REAL BOOKS, music and general goodness of pop culture? who are you?

THE PRETENDERS - BREAK UP THE CONCRETE

IT’S SO DAMN COLDDD HEREEEE! IRONIC HOW THE SNOW STARTED TO FALL AFTER THE OLYMPICS!

ack..

but on a lighter note, i ordered sunglasses! how adventurous of me! I went to a very high-end department store the other day and tried on a lot of sunglasses, i don’t want to buy anything too gaudy, so all the chanels and guccis are out! But ironically, I ended up deciding to buy Wayfarers, the most recognized sunglasses of our generation.

GASP! $$190 + 12% tax..

honey, it’s just plastic isn’t it!?

But i reallly want them, so I do what any smart shopper would do, I buy them online! I immediately went on amazon.com to search for raybans (yeah i seriously buy everything off of amazon these days) , I found a lot of really great prices! But, there are sizes?? It’s not easy to find a good pair of sunglasses and now there are size issues??

the following week, I went to a local unnamed glasses store and tried on many pairs of sunglasses until I determined the size, i’m sorry that i’m singlehandedly bringing down physical retail. But it’s so much cheaper online! Oh wells, they’re corporate, they can handle it.

Ended up paying $130 USD, wooooooot :D

that wasn’t a very exciting entry…

i think it’s because i concentrated too hard on my assignment about spandrels and evolution. it sucked all the wit and sarcasm out of me..

i just wanted to share how cold it is right now, so please feel sorry for me.

but at least i was finally able to put these gloves to good use!

Linkin Park - In Between

I was on my way to the bus station. Despite everything I felt pretty good. I wasn’t skipping down the sidewalk or anything, but I liked some things about myself and I didn’t wan to die. It was the closest I’d been to optimistic in years. — Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan

Second half of the book felt like it was written drunk, it felt a bit rushed and some what inconsistent with the beginnings. Timeline felt a bit more warped than usual, but it’s weird and funny. The type of funny isn’t as LOL as some other books you might have read. But as you read, you’ll stop and chuckle and return to reading. It’s not that easy to put down, so time-block a bit for this one. Oh lots of vulgarity, which I like very much.

In the book there’s a what is described as -sadistic corporate climber- woman. After reading about her and her behaviors, it’s what we are suppose to aspire to. Obviously not everyone wants to be a corporate exec, but these goal oriented, let-not-one-day pass life style that we lead is somewhat unhealthy. and it’s ironic since i just posted an entry about time-blocking on my other blog!

let’s hope that my kind of ‘doing-well’ is different, because right now i’m not really sure there could be a difference.

let’s hope that my kind of ‘doing-well’ is different, because right now i’m not really sure there could be a difference.

wikipedia described this book as a “possibly part of a trend of novels focusing on directionless people of an unusually young age for such restlessness”

won’t it be ironic if young people HAD directions? But i’m also rooting for direction-less anti-heros, who find people that got it together interesting? isn’t it the raw human emotions of struggle much more beautiful? okay i’ll shut up now…! It was also cute how he focused on cubicle-hate, that’s so early 2000 late 1990s! We don’t work in cubicles anymore, we suffer in open spaces with 20 year olds as our CEOs, not making money but getting to attend the Grammys. Oh wait, I work for GAP, i’m just going to take this battery pack and smack it over my head now.

I sincerely hope I get to be a 20-something thats making it and getting there with my innovation and love for the environment, I’m 21 and i think it’s too damn late.

Also Paul writes a blog, which wikipedia described as ‘regularly upating’, his last entry dated 2008… it’s..not 2008 anymore. And the kicker is he uses typepad, innovation, you gota love it.

OH YEAH, my biggest impression of the book, he writes like he’s British, the whole time i felt like i was reading a book from across the pond, but it’s from America, he writes like he’s British. quite mind blowing actually..

what a random entry, new hair cut after the cut

ALL DRESSED UP AND NOWHERE TO GO

OK NOW WHAT

March 7th, 2010

SPOON / is love forever? live version because i can’t find a non-live version

please listen to the songs? while reading the entry? i think i picked it to fit the mood, maybe - also readership is at a ridiculous decline, pftt, see if i care…! (i do but in happier news, one more subscriber!)

im trying to maintain the artistic integrity of the blog by posting pictures of stuff that i own around the house. i was going to write a speech about how maintained and roughed my leather jacket has become and the amount of history that i now have with this jacket. And because of its existence, i have grown and gained so much.

but it’s not, i just wear it a lot. Also i haven’t been doing anything exciting, i’m eagerly waiting for my dragonette concert so i have something to blog about.

well, i have been watching the new season of project runway, it’s so damn awesome, i stopped watching for a while after the season with Christinan siriano simply because no one was as fierce and everyone bored me! But this season, i have a huge crush on Jonothan from PROVIDENCE! He’s kind of geeky and lame and carries a purse, yeah, damn but mostly it’s because he’s hilarious, kind of reminds me of someone that no longer talks to me…

so yeah, if you subscribe my blog to your RSS feed (which i highly recommend) you would have gotten a stupid surprise. i totally forgot that even if i delete an entry here it still shows up in feed, since i self-subscribe, i realized this.

don’t be alarmed, i was in a weird friday afternoon mood and i just HAPPEN to write about relationships, as a result of this other blog i’m reading. I think writing about relationships will get readership, everyone ’s relationship is fucked up in some way or other so we want to read about more convoluted relationships to self-assure. i got it in the bag this is a generalization of course

yesterday i also felt like i should take more artsy pics of myself in various outfits so i’d have a stock of photos so i don’t have to do so much editing and picture taking every time i blog, it didnt work out, the pics sucked, i trashed them.

life is kind of fucked up right now, i’m in a weird place, im a child yet i am not. well i mostly am, problem solved i guess. I also really need a hair cut, a real hair cut this time! so i have some pics of styles that i like, again to not ruin the artistic integrity of the entry, i’m going to put it after cut, give me some opinionsssss

OK GO - NEEDING/ GETTING

while the THIS TOO SHALL PASS video goes viral, this is my favorite song off the new OK GO album

SAW IT HERE

HAVEN’T MET YOU YET (OR MAYBE I HAVE)

March 3rd, 2010

THAT’S MY FACE WHEN IM ATTEMPTING TO READ THIS GRAPH / CHART

SWEET, I KNEW THEY’D COME BACK, BUT WHO KNEW SO SOON? AND APPARENTLY THERE REALLY IS A BAND CALLED RAVENETTE

obsessed with this song, have been on repeat for a very very long time too, but more more importantly, the supermarket in the video is only a few blocks away from my house and i can’t believe i never knew they shot a video here!

i like the lyrics, cute, real cute, but from what we learned in class, romanticism is a DISEASE! because it gives you hallucinations about the ‘perfect one’.

if you’ll excuse me, i’m gonna take a dose of reality now

SO SPRUNG

March 2nd, 2010

first day of school after OLYMPICS, had to write a midterm (!!!!) and i was feeling feverish too, decided to come home instead of waiting around for my next class…

and rather than being a productive member of society, i made this instead!

i’m so looking forward to spring, i think even I am sick of all the leather, studs and black, time for fresh spring fun! I’m so glad I have all the key items of the season, just need a few more floral tops to wear from spring into summer!

can’t wait to wear lighter colored pants again! and my lovely A. Wang for GAP trench. I just feel like i need more floral printed stuff, and this amazing gap denim moto jacket. EVERYTIME GAP makes something good, they decide to not ship to all the stores, instead they continue to flood us with the crap that they recolor season after season.

Dont know if you got a chance to catch the closing ceremony last night, i would like to apologize on behalf of my country for all the shitty music exports, who knew avril is still alive? WHO KNEW? yeah, it was so damn awkward, had to walk away and pretend it wasn’t on…

i’m really looking forward to 2014 in SOCHI simply because of the gorgeous Natalia Vodianova, as she’s the official spokesperson for the 2014 games. She was here yesterday for the closing ceremonies, so gorgeous! If you aren’t familiar with her, watch this and fall in love.

i love that she has children and so nice and kind! I love her this quote from the video “Success comes from happiness, you attract positive energy when you give out positive energy.”

(NO) IMPACT MAN

February 24th, 2010

im in the midst of watching this movie but i have too many things to say about it, so im pausing and writing.

here’s the trailer for the documentary NO IMPACT MAN. A man and his family attempt to make no carbon footprint for a whole year. there are many things that i agree with in the film, and there are many things that i think he didnt research enough about.

I love the mom in the film, i love how she bought Chloe boots before the start of the year, and her eyes glow at the sight of a marc jacobs bag in the window and how she wore a tory burch tank top to the beach! And i also love their adorable daughter, and their interaction with her. They both seem like really decent parents and want to include her as much as possible in their activities.

a few things struck me as odd about the way the man thinks about environment and sustainability. One
thing that he wouldn’t allow to be used in his house is toilet paper. TOILET PAPER is made not from trees but recycled paper, im not 100% sure of this but seems like a dumbass thing to do to make it from trees.

also, the first thing he did after he started powering his house with solar electricity is to hook up his vaio so he can update his blog. what about the milk that’s not being cooled in the cooler? The frustration of the wife because of his homemade fridge ‘pot in the pot’.

at first, the documentary seemed really sincere and legit, but after a while it felt like it was purely for his up-coming book. i also find it odd that they have footage of the entire year, meaning they had a camera crew ready to go the moment they decided to do this. who pays for the documentary?

who knows if this is really a documentary. i dont care at all if the mom and daughter snuck out to have a burger and fries, but i will be appalled at the man who pushes his ideals on to his family because they are a family and they are one.

but there are many truths with eating less, throwing away less. in the film they talked about how the mom’s diabetes was gone (or reduced?) after they started eating organically. not saying that organic foods cure diabetes, but eating healthily, whether that’s organic or not, can create an overall healthier lifestyle.

but there are the bigger picture of buying organic than just buying organic. for example, in the film they drink milk out of glass jars which can be re-used. glass is obviously more heavy than a paper carton, therefore you can’t load as many bottles of milk than cartons of milk. this in turn costs more gas, which we’re in dire need of. Also, to clean the milk bottles which is re-used, they must be cleaned in super high temperature water, pressurized water probably, this costs a lot of energy too and i know one state in America that really needs that water. So in the end, what uses less, what allows the earth to be sustained?

another thing is consuming less, because of the recession, i’ve read in many fashion blogs that we should ’shop in our closet’ and ‘recycle fashion’ which i love the idea dearly, as much as i love to buy new clothes i think it’d be a good idea to create new looks with what you already have, and re-fall in love with items. these ideas i fully support.

another thing with consuming less, my dad just came back from our local cell phone store, and the clerk there spent 1.5 hours explaining every function of an iphone to a woman, who clearly doesnt know how to use one, and therefore doesn’t need it, the clerk had to explain everything from how to take a photo to deleting an email. if you are really that technologically challenged, you don’t need an iphone!

the no impact man should also think about how much bigger countries with denser populations are still able to have a smaller impact on earth than america. Wiping tables with cloths, and not paper towels is something that i’ve been doing my whole life! Re-using containers or plastic bags, bringing your own water bottle (im guilty of this one, i buy water) or your own cloth bag to the super market, a lot of people do these things already.

perhaps the man started out his journey with pure ideals now i think he’s just crazy. Also why is the film called NO IMPACT MAN, shouldn’t it be called THE NO IMPACT FAMILY? Since his poor wife and daughter was dragged through hell to accompany his personal success and fame.

Another thing is, the no impact man wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without his family, i can’t imagine a single person living in any metropolis city to not eat out, to not watch TV to not cure loneliness with alcohol !

and yeah he met Diane Sawyer on Good morning America, I’d CALL THAT FAME!

i love Good Morning america and everyone on it, unlike that douchey Today Show with the bitch katie something, who apparently hates the word PHLEGM.

/end

but, the movie had a great message and it’s fun to watch, i think i will try to buy ONE new piece of clothing (including jewels and shoes!) every month and not every week (which is what i do now if not more often), try to stop eating red meat and start bringing my own water bottle.

also i think part of it is shot in a fish-eye like lens, so it’s really beautiful.

but seriously, i lust after big macs and quarter pounders … im doing that homer simpson drool thing right now.

just so i don’t seem crazy, here’s a cute song.

THE ORION EXPERIENCE - OBSESSED WITH YOU

so at the end of the film, he talks about being an optimist and inspiring others to change. you can only inspire if the others want to be inspired. as a RACE, we are too selfish to live this way. and we as a RACE will probably end in our own demise. but, having said that, i think i am still an optimist and i want what he wants but in a more realistic light.

but to end off this post

i really like what he said at the near end of the film

“Gratitude for small pleasures”

(LOVE)

February 23rd, 2010

not one to believe in love, but i dont disagree with its existence, a cute video i just found on youtube and a song im in love with.

TIM HANAEUR - DREAM A BETTER WAY

but seriously? this guy’s SMOOOOTH // sorry i think i just ruined a moment
